(Sant'Anna di Vinadio, 28 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Avenging his team-mate Ilnur Zakarin who crashed spectacularly in yesterday's stage, Katusha’s Rein Taaramäe took Estonia’s first ever stage victory at the Giro d’Italia. Behind him, Vincenzo Nibali turned the general classification upside down and dethroned Esteban Chaves, while Alejandro Valverde slipped into third place ahead of former Maglia Rosa Steven Kruijswijk.

(Risoul, 27 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Pre-race favourite Vincenzo Nibali made up for his disappointment in the Dolomites by riding solo to victory at Risoul in French territory. Just behind him, Esteban Chaves dethroned Steven Kruijswijk who crashed in the descent from the Colle dell’Agnello and was taken to hospital at Briançon after the stage for X-rays.

Surprise attack brings Trentin his first Giro victory

mai 27, 2016

(Pinerolo, 26 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) At the end of the longest stage of the 99th Giro d’Italia, Matteo Trentin secured another stage win for Etixx-Quick Step – opening his Giro d'Italia account at the same time – after making substantial contributions to the earlier achievements of his team-mates Marcel Kittel, Gianluca Brambilla and Bob Jungels. He surprised Gianluca Brambilla and Moreno Moser by darting past them in the last 300 metres while, far behind, Steven Kruijswijk led the group of the favourites in the climbs that preceded the finale in Pinerolo.

mai 25, 2016

(Cassano d'Adda, 25 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) In the pure style of a pursuiter with a strong track background, Roger Kluge, who is set to represent Germany at the Rio Olympics in the Omnium (against Italy’s Elia Viviani and Colombia’s Fernando Gaviria, among others), took a splendid victory, anticipating the bunch sprint to take his first stage win in a Grand Tour. Maglia Rossa Giacomo Nizzolo, second, made the podium for the thirteen time of his career at the Giro d’Italia but he’s yet to win a stage. Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk retained the Maglia Rosa.
