Nibali wins 99th Giro d’Italia

(Torino, 29 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) The Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) has won the 99th Giro d'Italia, and the final Maglia Rosa, inscribing his name for the second time on the Trofeo Senza Fine. Esteban Chaves (Orica Greenedge) is second at 52", with Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) third at 1'17".

(28/05/2015 - L'Essentiel) Près de 14 000 participants se sont élancés samedi soir de Luxexpo pour la 11e édition de l'ING Night Marathon, soit 3 000 de plus qu'à la dernière édition. Un nouveau succès pour la course populaire qui a vu la victoire du Kenyan John Komen en 2h12'57", établissant un nouveau record sur l'épreuve.

Le Danois Steffen Falck a quant à lui battu le record sur le semi-marathon en bouclant les 21,097 km en 1h10'1" devant le Luxembourgeois Yannick Lieners (1h11'50").

Près de 8 000 participants étaient engagés sur le marathon.

Rein Taaramäe makes history for Estonia

(Sant'Anna di Vinadio, 28 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Avenging his team-mate Ilnur Zakarin who crashed spectacularly in yesterday's stage, Katusha’s Rein Taaramäe took Estonia’s first ever stage victory at the Giro d’Italia. Behind him, Vincenzo Nibali turned the general classification upside down and dethroned Esteban Chaves, while Alejandro Valverde slipped into third place ahead of former Maglia Rosa Steven Kruijswijk.

(Risoul, 27 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Pre-race favourite Vincenzo Nibali made up for his disappointment in the Dolomites by riding solo to victory at Risoul in French territory. Just behind him, Esteban Chaves dethroned Steven Kruijswijk who crashed in the descent from the Colle dell’Agnello and was taken to hospital at Briançon after the stage for X-rays.

Surprise attack brings Trentin his first Giro victory

(Pinerolo, 26 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) At the end of the longest stage of the 99th Giro d’Italia, Matteo Trentin secured another stage win for Etixx-Quick Step – opening his Giro d'Italia account at the same time – after making substantial contributions to the earlier achievements of his team-mates Marcel Kittel, Gianluca Brambilla and Bob Jungels. He surprised Gianluca Brambilla and Moreno Moser by darting past them in the last 300 metres while, far behind, Steven Kruijswijk led the group of the favourites in the climbs that preceded the finale in Pinerolo.

Roger Kluge takes his first Grand Tour victory at Cassano d’Adda

(Cassano d'Adda, 25 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) In the pure style of a pursuiter with a strong track background, Roger Kluge, who is set to represent Germany at the Rio Olympics in the Omnium (against Italy’s Elia Viviani and Colombia’s Fernando Gaviria, among others), took a splendid victory, anticipating the bunch sprint to take his first stage win in a Grand Tour. Maglia Rossa Giacomo Nizzolo, second, made the podium for the thirteen time of his career at the Giro d’Italia but he’s yet to win a stage. Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk retained the Maglia Rosa.

Alejandro Valverde takes first Giro stage win

(Andalo, 24 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Alejandro Valverde took his first ever stage win at the Giro d’Italia in style, outsprinting Steven Kruijswijk and Ilnur Zakarin in a demanding stage finish at Andalo. In an extremely hard-fought stage averaging 44.270km/h, despite lumpy terrain, the Dutchman took his third straight second place but, more importantly, increased his overall lead over arch-rivals Esteban Chaves, who fought hard to regain position, and Vincenzo Nibali, who lost contact with the front of the race after starting the hostilites early on.

Steven Kruijswijk consolidates Maglia Rosa

(Alpe di Siusi (Seiseralm), 22 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Russian rider Alexander Foliforov of Gazprom-RusVelo (photo) was the surprise winner in the uphill time trial at Alpe di Siusi with an advantage of 16 hundredths of a second over Steven Kruijswijk, who consolidated his Maglia Rosa with one week of the 99th Giro d’Italia to go. He outclassed rivals Esteban Chaves, Vincenzo Nibali and Alejandro Valverde, who now follow him in that order in the overall ranking. Vincenzo Nibali's ride was hindered by a mechanical incident. He finished 25th at 2'10".

Diddeleng 4 ever

Im zweiten Finale zur Mannschaftsmeisterschaft der BDO TT League konnte sich Diddeleng vor 250 einheimischen Zuschauern mit 5-2 durchsetzen und konnte somit ihr viertes Doublé nacheinander gewinnen. Bei Ettelbréck schlug wie im Hinspiel Stéphane Dijou für den verletzten Eric Thillen auf, hingegen die Südstädter mit ihrer stärksten Formation antraten. Der Titelverteidiger konnte sich noch vor der Pause mit 3-1 absetzen, was bedingt war dass Christian Kill diesmal Luca Mladenovic bezwingen konnte.

Chaves wins Giro d'Italia Queen Stage

(Corvara (Alta Badia), 21 May 2016 – Press Giro d'Italia) Following the path of 2014 Giro d’Italia winner Nairo Quintana, Colombia’s Esteban Chaves claimed the Queen Stage of the 99th edition in Corvara (Alta Badia) while his breakaway companion Steven Kruijswijk took the Maglia Rosa for the first time, positioning himself as potentially the first ever Dutch winner of the Giro d'Italia. Movistar’s Andrey Amador and Alejandro Valverde lost time, while Vincenzo Nibali finished 37" behind Chaves and Kruijswijk and now lies second overall at 41 seconds.
